The Montjuic solar cemetery, the only cemetery in Barcelona with photovoltaic energy, has already produced 34,800 kilowatt hours (kWh) in the only five months that it has been operating, energy equivalent to the energy consumption of eleven families.
It certainly seems and is low energy. However, it is not a ground-based solar plant, but the 700 square meters of panels are installed on the roof of eight niche blocks. Per year, it will produce enough energy to cover the energy needs of 32 families or almost 34 percent of the energy consumption of the Montjuïc cemetery and crematorium, which will reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by 94 tons per year.
